During their career together, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created and produced numerous comic books and characters for almost every publisher. For Simon, participation in ownership of the property was the key to making an arrangement for a company to publish the work, even as far back as Captain America.
Simon and Kirby had the distinctintion of forming one of the first indepdendent publishing companies in comics' history. This was Mainline Publications, Simon and Kirby's very own publishing company.
The legendary Simon and Kirby Studio employed different talents at different times but everyone who worked with Simon and Kirby contributed to the team's success.
When Simon and Kirby eventually went their separate ways in the later 1950s, Simon continued to produce work in which he held or participated in ownership. Kirby went on to reinvent himself working for such publishers as Marvel and DC Comics.
As for those Simon and Kirby days, such comic book greats as Carl Burgos, Al Williamson, Mort Meskin, Marvin Stein, Carmine and Jimmy Infantino, Howard Ferguson, Ben Oda, Jack Oleck, George Tuska, Dick Ayers and others contributed to making the Simon and Kirby Studio truly legendary.
